Well, I did it again. Missed a few days. Hey, you’ll see why in Day 30 of this series, but for now, let’s ignore that Day 23 never happened (it was a #CaptureYourGrief day, and I’m just adding those images in with the other ones later). Let’s jump into Day 24 and 25 – a combined lesson on how true it needs to get in order for you to blog your truth.

Today is about blogging it all. Letting it all hang out, so to speak.

You see, you can’t just share the good stuff. No one wants to hear all sunshine and roses and how wonderful your life is. Because nobody’s life is really that good.

People want to relate to you. They want to know that they’re not alone. (Any of this sounding familiar?)

They want to know that you have bad days.

Heck, they want to know when it gets downright ugly.

And you should tell them. Because if you don’t, you’re not being authentic. You’re not blogging your truth.

Remember, blogging your truth means being true to the story you decide to tell. It doesn’t mean telling every story, and believe it or not, it doesn’t mean telling every part of the story either.

It just means that you have to be real. Real about the good and the bad. And the ugly.

Let me give you an example…

For me, I blog about loss. That’s not good, so we’ll call that the bad. But, I can’t just blog all bad stuff; all sad stuff. I have to tell you the good too. I have to talk about the positives that have come from my loss, the good days I have with my survivors, and the progress we’re all making.

But I also need to talk about the ugly. The awful days when I’m feeling like a crappy mom or when I miss my son and just want to curl up in a ball and sleep it off. Or when I eat too many cupcakes.

Why? Because it’s REAL. Someone out there is going through it too.

Here’s a few other examples:

  • A food blogger might talk about awesome recipes. But they also need to talk about the recipes they’ve messed up and the mistakes they make. It can’t all be perfectly presented food.
  • A dieting blogger might talk about all the things they’re doing well and how they’re losing weight. But they also need to talk about the days they struggle to eat healthy or exercise, or the days they completely fall off the wagon.
  • A fashion blogger might show you her best look, but she should also share about that time she tripped on the runway or got a snag in her blouse or when she embarrassed herself by wearing the wrong shade of the newest polish.
  • A DIY blogger needs to show you her failures right along with her awesome catalog pieces – how else are you going to know that not everything is Pinterest-perfect?

You see, no matter what you’re blogging about, there’s a way to do it truthfully. Just be sure to share the bad and relatable moments along with the good and enviable ones. It makes people like you better. Because they will trust you more when they see that you’re just like them.
